UEFA ban Terry for another two games

Chelsea skipper John Terry has been handed an additional two-match European ban for his sending off against Barcelona in this year's Champions League semi-final.

Terry was given a straight red card after striking Barcelona forward Alexis Sanchez with his knee during the second leg of the two clubs' semi-final tie, a indiscretion that saw him miss the final of the tournament as the Blues went on to claim the trophy.

UEFA has decided to issue Terry with a three-match ban for the foul in Sanchez - although the final at the Allianz Arena is included as one of them. Therefore, he will now also miss Chelsea's Super Cup clash with Atletico Madrid and their opening match in next year's Champions League group stage.

"The UEFA Control and Disciplinary Body has suspended Chelsea FC player John Terry for three UEFA club competition matches," a statement read. "As the player did not participate in the subsequent final against Bayern Munich on May 19, he has already served one match of his suspension.

"The remaining two games shall apply to the player's next two UEFA club competition matches for which he would be eligible.

"An appeal may be lodged against this decision within three days of the dispatch of the reasoned decision."
