Vertonghen expects to sign for Spurs this week

Jan Vertonghen is likely to complete his move from Ajax to Tottenham Hotspur in the near future, according to agent Mustapha Nakhli.

Spurs have been in talks for several weeks over the signing of Belgium defender Vertonghen, who has long made clear his desire to secure a move to White Hart Lane.

"Jan is waiting," Nakhli told Voetbal International. "The clubs are close. I hope it will be this week. I think it will. We are talking to Tottenham."

Ajax are said to be looking for €15 million for Vertoghen, 25, but Nakhli feels that is excessive given his client has only one year remaining on his contract.

He said: "€15 million? Jan has a contract until mid-2013, so what do you think?"
