Dani Pacheco has defended his use of the word "negrito" in a tweet to Liverpool team-mate Glen Johnson.

Pacheco, 21, sent a good luck message on Twitter to Johnson as he travelled to Poland with the England squad ahead of Euro 2012. He tweeted: "@glen_johnson good luck negrito!!!!"

The term had been used by Liverpool's Uruguayan forward Luis Suarez towards Manchester United's Patrice Evra last season and, although Suarez argued the term was not derogatory, the Football Association punished him with an eight-match ban.

Spain Under-21 forward Pacheco received criticism for his use of the term, but insisted it had been used with solely positive intent.

He tweeted: "I already explained in the past what Negrito could mean. Good or bad depends how you say it. I always called @glen_johnson it in terms of love.

"Last tweet about it. @glen_johnson speaks Spanish and he knows what that means when I say it to him. He is one of best mates there for me."
