Wigan Athletic chairman Dave Whelan has told ESPN he does not expect Tottenham Hotspur to make an approach for manager Roberto Martinez.

Following Harry Redknapp's dismissal, Spurs are in the market for a new manager and Martinez is reported to be among the names Daniel Levy is considering for the position.

However, Everton's David Moyes is the favourite to take charge at White Hart Lane and Whelan says Spurs have yet to make any contact with Wigan.

"I have not been approached, and Roberto has not been approached," he told ESPN. "He is so honest that he would tell me the minute that he has.

"I think it's pie in the sky that Spurs want Roberto. It seems that way as they have made no approach. That's not to say that they won't, but I hope that Spurs go for David Moyes and leave us alone!"

Liverpool had held talks with Martinez before announcing the appointment of Swansea manager Brendan Rodgers.
