McCoist expected to stay at Ibrox

Rangers chairman Malcolm Murray is confident that Ally McCoist will remain as Rangers manager next season after meetings with the new owners.

Former Sheffield United chief executive Charles Green's consortium completed their purchase of the business and assets of Rangers as a newco on Thursday, following the failure to secure a Company Voluntary Arrangement (CVA) which consigned the club to liquidation.

Thursday was a dramatic day for the future of Rangers, with reports of McCoist's impending resignation and an eleventh hour rival bid received from a consorium lead by former manager Walter Smith.

The offer failed to derail Green's bid, though, and now the club have set about securing McCoist's future at the club.

Murray told BBC Scotland: "We want Ally to commit, then move forward. It's our stated policy that he's an integral part of the club and he's been told that.

"I believe he will be the manager of Rangers next season and we have to make the effort to make that happen. It's what every fan wants. We need to get Ally on board as soon as possible to talk to the players, who are away on holiday just now.''

McCoist took over at Ibrox in 2011, after four years as assistant to Smith. However, the year since his ascendancy to the helm has been a difficult one for the Gers, with the club entering administration over an unpaid tax bill.
