Borussia Monchengladbach sporting director Max Eberl has conceded that it will be difficult for his side to sign transfer target Olivier Giroud, in the face of competition from the likes of Arsenal.

Giroud, 25, has been linked with a £12 million move to Emirates Stadium this summer, but Gladbach have not given up hope of securing the Montpellier striker's signature.

Eberl, though, has said that the club will not look to compete beyond their self imposed financial limits.

He is quoted in Bild as saying: "We remain true to our policy that we do not throw our money out the window. The problem in our negotiations is that we are in competition with clubs like Arsenal and top clubs in Germany."

Giroud rose to prominence over the last 12 months, pushing his way into the France national set-up as he scored 21 goals to fire La Palliade to their first ever Ligue 1 title.
