The English Football Association has been fined €5,000 (£4,035) by UEFA after several fans attempted to get on to the pitch following Theo Walcott's goal in the 3-2 victory over Sweden.

The game provoked emotional reactions in the stands which led to European football's governing body investigating whether some fans tried to invade the pitch after Walcott levelled the game up at 2-2.

A statement released by UEFA read: "The Football Association of England (FA) has been fined €5,000 by the UEFA Control and Disciplinary Body for the inappropriate conduct of their supporters - attempted invasion of the field of play - at the UEFA Euro 2012 Group D match against Sweden in Kyiv on Friday June 15.

"An appeal may be lodged against this decision within 24 hours of the dispatch of the reasoned decision."

However, the FA has decided not to launch an appeal as the small fine suggests UEFA did not consider the offence to be serious.

"The FA accepts UEFA's sanction in relation to the incident versus Sweden and we consider the matter closed," said an FA statement. .
