Ashley Cole is banking on England's bulldog spirit enabling him to fulfil his international dreams.

England have progressed to the quarter-finals of Euro 2012 in a functional rather than fluent way, but expectation is rising that Roy Hodgson's men can claim glory.

Up first is a quarter-final with Italy and Cole will win his 98th cap in Kiev. He is banking on team spirit taking him to the century of appearances in the final.

"We're like 11 bulldogs who will never give up, who will always work for each other and basically die on the pitch for each other," Cole said. "So far it seems to be working.

"I've been lucky enough to play 97 times and hopefully I will get to 100 in the final, which would be amazing - what little kids' dreams are made of."

Cole has enjoyed major success in his club career with Arsenal and Chelsea, but glory on the international stage is still missing from his CV.

He said: "My England career is unfulfilled. I've not done what I want to do and win something for England. Reaching a semi-final wouldn't be a success. You come to every tournament to win it.

"With big players missing from the squad, a semi would be amazing. But none of these players are going to settle for that.

"Winning Euro 2012 would top the lot.

"I've won the Champions League, I've won the Premier League with Chelsea and Arsenal. To win something with England would sum up my career."
