Darren Bent thinks Aston Villa are "going places" under new manager Paul Lambert and says the club's young players can drive them up the Premier League table.

Villa survived relegation by only a couple of points as they toiled under Alex McLeish but moved swiftly to replace him with Norwich manager Paul Lambert once the season had ended.

After selling some key players before the start of the 2011-12 season, Villa were reliant on a clutch of young players to keep their heads above water, with Bent missing the last three months of the campaign through injury.

But under new leadership, Bent now thinks good times are ahead for Villa: "We have some good youngsters coming through and this year is their chance to shine.

"With one or two additions Lambert brings in, it could be a really good year for us. Last season some of the youngsters had to come in and play five or six games straight off and they had never done that before.

"But they are a season on now and know what to expect from the Premier League. This season they will really shine and I really think Villa are going places."
