Tottenham set to snare Sigurdsson
Tottenham Hotspur are poised to win the race to sign Hoffenheim midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson, according to widespread reports.
Spurs are believed to have agreed personal terms with Sigurdsson after Hoffenheim accepted an £8 million offer for the Iceland international.
Sigurdsson spent the second half of last season on loan at Swansea, winning praise for his all-action performances and netting on seven occasions in the Premier League.
He was expected to complete a permanent transfer to Swansea, who agreed a fee with Hoffenheim, but the move stalled when manager Brendan Rodgers left the Liberty Stadium for Anfield. Michael Laudrup, Rodgers' replacement at Swansea, has conceded defeat in the battle to snare Sigurdsson.
Sigurdsson was then heavily linked with a switch to Liverpool, with reports suggesting he had held discussions with Rodgers. However, it now seems managerless Tottenham are in pole position to secure the 22-year-old's signature.
Any move would heighten speculation over the future of Tottenham midfielder Luka Modric, who is being spoken of as a target for several leading European clubs.
