Olivier Giroud has claimed he snubbed Chelsea in favour of a move to Arsenal.

The France international propelled himself into the big league with his displays for Montpellier in Ligue 1 last term. His efforts in front of goal earned him a move to Arsenal, who have confirmed the capture of the 25-year-old, but he could have been heading for another part of London.

Giroud claims he had been contacted by Chelsea, but was swayed by the prospect of working with Gunners boss Arsene Wenger.

"The choice was between Chelsea and Arsenal," Giroud told TF1. "I chose Arsenal because of the club's philosophy and stability.

"It is something that means a lot for me. I've always dreamed of playing in the Premier League and Arsenal are a great club with many French players.

"I adore Arsenal, Wenger really wanted me and I wasn't sure Di Matteo knows who I am."
