Galatasaray have confirmed their interest in Manchester United forward Dimitar Berbatov.

The Bulgarian has suffered a remarkable fall from grace at Old Trafford, as he was the golden boot winner as United won the Premier League title in the 2010/11 season. He was a peripheral figure last term and despite the club taking up an option to extend his contract, he seems surplus to requirements.

Links with Paris Saint Germain, Bayer Leverkusen and Lazio have so far failed to bear fruit and the 31-year-old now seems to have Turkish giants Galatasaray on his tail.

"The Bulgarian is a great forward," Galatasaray president Unal Aysal is quoted as saying on gol.bg. "I want him to join us but, of course, coach Fatih Terim has the final word."

United may well seek a new attacking face should Berbatov move on, as the club confirmed on Monday that Michael Owen had been released from his contract.
