The agent of Jan Vertonghen is set for further talks with Ajax to try and finally reach an agreement over the terms of his proposed transfer to Tottenham Hotspur.

The saga has now rumbled on for two months with no sign of Vertonghen putting pen to paper on a contract at Spurs.

Vertonghen, 25, believes he is due a cut of the £9 million fee Spurs will pay Ajax, but the Eredivisie champions are refusing to bow to his demands - and as it stands he will start the season at the Amsterdam ArenA.

Vertonghen's agent, Mustapha Nakhli, said: "We have nothing [agreed] at this moment. They [the talks] were not easy but we are going to try again."

It is thought the two parties will hold more meetings on Saturday in the hope that a compromise can be found.

He would join Gylfi Sigurdsson in boosting the ranks of new Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas.
