Fiorentina deny bid for Chamakh

Fiorentina have denied making an offer for Arsenal striker Marouane Chamakh - despite Gunners manager Arsene Wenger saying that a bid had been tabled.

Wenger told the Times that "Fiorentina requested information on his availability and made an offer," but the Italian club said they had not made a move for Chamakh because of the wages they would have to pay.

Chamakh, 28, joined Arsenal from Bordeaux in 2012, signing on a free transfer, but has failed to secure a regular place in the side and scored only one goal in all competitions last season.

"Have we made an offer for Chamakh? We have not made one because he earns €3 million [a season]," Fiorentina sporting director Daniele Prade told SportItalia .

Prade said Mounir El Hamdaoui, Chamakh's international strike partner, would be moving to the Italian club from Ajax, adding: "We hope to complete El Hamdaoui's transfer. He is a striker that our coach [Vincenzo Montella] likes a lot."

And he stressed that Fiorenta would only consider selling striker Stevan Jovetic over the summer if a club offered €30 million or more.

Reports have linked the Montenegro international, who is under contract with Fiorentina until 2016 and scored 14 goals last season, with a move to Chelsea, Arsenal or Liverpool.

"Since the start of the season, we have said that we are not selling Jovetic," Prade said. "There is, however, an agreement with the player that, [if an offer is tabled] above a certain figure, we will sit down and evaluate the offer.

"So far, we have not received an offer for the player. He has the potential to become a player like Francesco Totti."
