Reading have re-signed their former defender Nicky Shorey on a one-year deal after his release from West Brom at the end of the season.

Shorey, 31, previously spent seven years at Reading between 2001-08, making 286 appearances for the Berkshire outfit and playing his way to England recognition.

The left-back moved on to Aston Villa, spending spells on loan at Fulham and Nottingham Forest before joining West Brom in 2010.

Reading chairman Sir John Madejski told the club's official site: "I would like to welcome Nicky back to Reading Football Club. He was an outstanding player here once before and we are looking forward to him triumphing even more this time around.

"I know the manager was very keen to have Nicky back - that makes a huge difference, and so good luck to him once again."

Shorey, voted the best left-back in the club's history, will wear the number three shirt and has the option for a further year written into his contract.
