Hamburg coach Thomas Fink would "be delighted" to bring midfielder Rafael van der Vaart to the HSV-Arena, after being linked with the Tottenham player.

Van der Vaart, 29, is thought to be keen on a return to the Bundesliga, but Fink admits that there are financial limitations that mean a deal is unlikely.

"We have drawn up a target profile and Rafael van der Vaart would be an ideal fit,'' Fink told Sport 1.

"Any coach would be delighted to have him. Rafael is a very good player and he would be very interesting for Hamburg if we had the money to pay for him. And we are not lacking just a little, we are talking about a great deal of money.''

The Dutch midfielder previously spent three seasons at Hamburg, scoring 29 goals in 74 games before leaving to join Real Madrid in Spain.

Fink also revealed that, whilst the club are actively looking to recruit new players, they will take their time to source the right candidates, with experience an important factor.
