Out-of-favour Chelsea winger Florent Malouda may have priced himself out of a move to Brazilian club Santos due to his wage demands.

Malouda, who is still in negotiations with Santos, is no longer a first choice midfielder at Chelsea and he is being tipped to leave Stamford Bridge this summer.

The Frenchman, whose wife Florencia hails from Brazil, has been linked with a move to several clubs in South America, including Vasco da Gama, but will have to take a pay cut to secure a deal.

Muricy Ramalho, the head coach at Santos, said: "Malouda was offered to us. He is a very interesting player, but you get scared when they tell you their demands.

"They say they are in crisis in Europe, but they spend so much money on transfers there. He was offered to us, but when you think about his wages, it gets hard.

"He is a very good player, an old-school midfielder who can hold the ball and set the tone in attack."
