Lambert rubbishes Owen-to-Villa talk
Paul Lambert has insisted Aston Villa are not in the running for former Manchester United striker Michael Owen.
Owen is on the lookout for a new club following his release from Old Trafford earlier in the summer. Everton and Stoke have strongly linked, while Villa's name has been added to the mix - and reports in Australia claim Melbourne Heart are planning a bid.
Owen has been talking about his future in recent days, claiming he is close to signing for a new club, but he does not appear to be heading for Villa.
"No, that won't happen," Lambert told the Birmingham Mail.
"There was no enquiry from us, I don't know where that came from.
"That's a non-starter. He's a top player, no doubt, a really top player, but for another team."
