Southampton announce Steven Davis signing
Southampton have announced the signing of midfielder Steven Davis after reaching an agreement with the Rangers newco.
Northern Ireland international Davis, 27, has signed a contract until 2016 with the Saints after the clubs settled on a deal that suited both parties.
An announcement on Southampton's official website read: "Saints are pleased to announce that they have reached an agreement with Glasgow Rangers over the transfer of Steven Davis.
"The midfielder originally agreed to join Saints earlier this month following the well-publicised issues surrounding the Scottish giants. Since then both clubs have been in discussions to reach an amicable solution that would avoid the need for the player's international transfer clearance to be agreed at a FIFA tribunal."
Davis, who has previous Premier League experience after spells with Aston Villa and Fulham, has been training with Southampton since July 6 and is relieved the move has now been formalised.
"I'm delighted to get everything sorted," he said. "There was an element of uncertainty at how long it would take to get the transfer papers through, so I have to give credit to the executive chairman Nicola Cortese for wanting to get it done and removing the need for things to drag on any longer.
"This is good news for all parties, and now we can all move forward."
