Redknapp holding out for Premier League job

Former Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp has turned down lucrative offers to manage abroad because he wants another crack at a top Premier League club.

Redknapp has been out of work since being axed by Spurs last month after four years at White Hart Lane, but has already had plenty of approaches about an immediate return to management.

The 65-year-old has previously been linked with a move to the Middle East, and is still believed to have suitors there, while other financial hotbeds China and Russia have also been mooted as possible destinations.

However, London-born Redknapp has never ventured further than the south coast during his managerial career and he favours another club in the Premier League, according to Jon Smith, chief executive of his representatives First Artist Management.

"There have been offers for Harry, sizeable offers overseas. But he loves English football and he wants to see what happens next," Smith said.

Redknapp's sacking by Spurs took many in the football world by surprise, including the man himself - as he was expecting to be offered a new contract.

"It is ridiculous when you think about it, as he was a resounding success but Tottenham decided that was that," Smith said. "It is bizarre that the last time he was spotted it was playing golf.

"He finished fourth in the Premier League and ostensibly qualified for the Champions League and then he gets fired... He believed there was going to be a new deal for him at Tottenham."
