Juventus warn Arsenal over Van Persie

Juventus have cooled talk of a move for Robin van Persie, with the Serie A champions seemingly put off by Arsenal's demands for their captain.

Van Persie has told Arsenal he will not sign a new contract, which has led to a flurry of transfer speculation. Manchester City and Manchester United hold an interest in the 28-year-old, while Juventus have been leading the way from the teams in continental Europe.

Arsenal have spoken of their desire to retain the services of their captain, unless a sizeable offer is tabled, and it would appear as if the Gunners' demands have put off the Old Lady of Italian football.

"A top player is not only judged by how much he costs," Juventus director Giuseppe Marotta told Sky Sport Italia. "It can also mean a player who costs less but on the pitch shows an absolute value.

"Van Persie is a great player but Arsenal do not intend to lose him. And you cannot indulge in a player if the owners don't want (to sell).

"Talk of our real interest in him seems excessive to me."

Paul Pogba is on his way to Turin and Juve are confident of wrapping up a deal for the Manchester United midfielder.

Marotta said: "He arrives tonight and he will quickly take his medical, then we will sort out the details of his contract."
