Terry denies FA racism charge

Chelsea captain John Terry has denied an FA charge of racial abuse and requested a personal hearing.
The charge stems from the QPR v Chelsea fixture at Loftus Road on October 23, 2011, during which it is alleged "Terry used abusive and/or insulting words and/or behaviour" towards Ferdinand, including "a reference to [his] ethnic origin and/or colour and/or race".
He was found not guilty last month by Westminster Magistrates' Court of a racially aggravated public order offence. That trial also centred on Terry's language in the QPR v Chelsea fixture.
Terry faces a lengthy ban if found guilty at the FA hearing, where the burden of proof is lower than in a criminal trial: the FA has to prove its case "on the balance of probabilities".
The centre-back is available to play for England while the FA charge hangs over his head. Roy Hodgson's team will face Italy on August 15 in Berne, Switzerland.
Chelsea's season begins on August 12, with the Community Shield fixture against Manchester City.
