Redknapp: Modric heading for Real

Former Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp is of the belief that Luka Modric will not be a Spurs player come the start of the season, despite negotiations with Real Madrid having reached an impasse.

Modric, 26, is eager to seal a summer move away from Tottenham, but so far the favourites for his signature, Real Madrid, have failed to reach his club's £40 million valuation of the playmaker.

ESPN understands Real are unwilling to exceed paying £33 million for Modric, who was a target of Chelsea last summer only for the Blues to fail to match Tottenham's demands.

But Redknapp, who has been replaced by Andre Villas-Boas at White Hart Lane, anticipates that the Croatia international will leave north London, after claiming chairman Daniel Levy gave the player assurances over an exit.

Redknapp told the Sun: "I would not be sure Luka would start the season at Tottenham.

"The club would be happy to sell if they get the right money. The chairman [Daniel Levy] said to him last year 'Give us one more season and if Real come in, I won't stand in your way'."

Meanwhile, the agent and father of Hugo Lloris has suggested the Lyon and France goalkeeper could yet join Tottenham. Luc said: "I'm sure that Hugo's move will be accelerated if Modric joins Real."
