Scotland boss Craig Levein has confirmed Manchester United midfielder Darren Fletcher will meet up with the national squad for training.

Fletcher has been absent since the end of last year when it was announced that he would be spending time on the sidelines due to a chronic bowel complaint which had been affecting him since the previous season.

United boss Sir Alex Ferguson recently delivered a downbeat assessment on Fletcher, claiming there was no indication as to when he would be able to return.

Fletcher has since said he has no intention of retiring and it would appear as if he is making progress as he will train with the national side this week.

"He is back in training," Levein said while announcing his squad for the friendly with Australia. "He played 45 minutes in a practice match last week. I have been in touch with him every two or three weeks during the summer.

"He is not in the squad as he has not played for Manchester United . But he will do a bit of training with us."
