Rangers pair charged by SFA

Rangers manager Ally McCoist and chief executive Charles Green will face Scottish Football Association disciplinary charges, in relation to comments made to the media last month.

Green has been charged with bringing the game into disrepute after claiming "bigotry" prevented the club's re-entry to the Scottish Premier League.

McCoist, for his part, allegedly breached disciplinary rules by demanding that the members of the SFA's Judicial Panel be named in public.

Both Rangers and McCoist have until August 17 to respond to the charge, with August 30 identified as a provisional date for the cases to be heard.

The charge against Green reads: "Charles Green brought the game into disrepute and did not act in the best interests of football by not behaving towards other members with the utmost good faith, all by making comments in a media interview which nsuggested that decisions taken concerning the future of Rangers FC were nmotivated, in part, by bigotry.''

Ahead of Rangers' Ramsdens Cup tie against Brechin on July 29, Green told BBC Scotland: "Some of it has been driven by bigotry, some of it's been driven by jealousy and some of it's been driven by all the wrong motives.''

Green led the Sevco consortium which purchased the assets and business of Rangers when the club's parent company was liquidated earlier this summer.

The SPL clubs then chose to vote against the newco returning to the top-flight, before the Scottish Football League clubs decided that Rangers should resume in the Scottish Third Division - the country's fourth tier.
