Manchester City are poised to complete the signing of Jack Rodwell after Everton accepted an "undisclosed" bid for the midfielder.

Rodwell will head to Manchester for a medical with the Premier League champions on Sunday, prior to completing the move.

"Everton have agreed an undisclosed fee with Manchester City for the transfer of Jack Rodwell," a statement from the Merseyside club read. "The midfielder is set to undergo a medical with City on Sunday."

While the transfer fee has not been revealed, it is believed to be in the region of £15 million, with performance-related clauses.

Rodwell has been a long-term target of Manchester United - with Chelsea also credited with a persistent interest - but City have moved quickly to secure the versatile player and bolster their midfield ranks.

Manager Roberto Mancini is also keen to adhere to Premier League squad rules, with Rodwell's homegrown status almost as valuable as the qualities he will bring to the squad.

The 21-year-old is a full England international, making his debut at Wembley against Spain last November, although there has been speculation over the last 18 months that his club manager, David Moyes, has been disappointed with his rate of progress.

He was left out of Team GB's squad for the Olympics, however, after suffering with some persistent hamstring problems. But, believing those injury issues are behind him now, he said recently that he is looking forward to the new campaign.

"Obviously I would have liked to have played but I feel like I'm in the right place now," Rodwell said. "I'm feeling fit, I'm doing a good pre-season and hopefully I'm ready to go for the first game of the season.

"I just want to stay injury-free and get a good run of games because everyone wants to stay injury-free."
