New Liverpool signing Joe Allen admits he is looking to settle down quickly at the club after a "whirlwind" couple of seasons.

The cultured midfielder has enjoyed a rapid rise through football's ranks in recent times, helping Swansea City moving from the Championship into the Premier League before representing Team GB at the Olympic Games and rejoining former manager Brendan Rodgers at the Reds in a multi-million pound move this summer.

The Welshman admits it has been hard to stay on an even keel with so much going on in his professional career.

"The last couple of seasons have definitely been a whirlwind," Allen told Sky Sports News. "First and foremost, we got promotion to the Premier League which was something I hadn't imagined so quickly and then off the back of last season to find myself where I am today has been an incredible journey.

"I'm very grateful for the times I've had and I'm looking forward to more magic moments in the future."

While Allen obviously has the faith and admiration of Rodgers, he realises he cannot automatically expect to slot into the first team at Anfield.

He added: "There is competition for every single place in the team, it's full of world-class quality.

"I'm really excited to be playing with the likes of the players who are at this football club and hopefully I can gel straight with them."
