Lyon have confirmed that they rejected an offer from Tottenham Hotspur for goalkeeper Hugo Lloris this summer.

Lloris, 25, is said to be high on Tottenham's list of targets, with current first choice shot-stopper Brad Friedel having turned 41 in May.

Arsenal have also been linked with France international Lloris, while Spurs have been informed that they must up their initial offer if they are to secure his signature.

"Hugo wants to play in one of the best clubs in Europe," Lyon chairman Jean-Michel Aulas told French radio station RMC.

"This year, there was an approach from Tottenham that was quickly rejected. If he absolutely wants to leave, we will look at the proposals - but they must be consistent with what we want. If not, he will stay."
