Henriquez has medical at Man Utd
Universidad de Chile striker Angelo Henriquez has completed a medical with Manchester United and is now set to complete a £3.5 million deal.
Reports on Tuesday indicated United had stepped up their efforts to sign the Chilean, after Premier League champions Manchester City showed an interest. And Henriquez's brother, Cesar, has now revealed that the talented striker has completed a medical with the Old Trafford club.
"His exam was done today. I have talked to him and he is happy and calm," Cesar told Chilean newspaper La Tercera.
Cesar Henriquez confirmed that United have been watching his brother for more than two years, ever since he appeared in the Nike Manchester Cup for Universidad's youth side.
"The agents would come and watch Angelo at all his matches," Cesar added. "They would talk for a long time with him and in some ways would counsel him.
"They started [evaluating] with 10 players in South America and now only Angelo is left. He has made great sacrifices, but it is his dream to play for Manchester United."
On Tuesday Universidad assistant manager Sebastian Beccacece revealed that Henriquez is currently not "available" for the club, adding to speculation that a transfer is in the pipeline.
"No doubt he is a very useful player, with a good goalscoring talent," Beccacece told Radio ADN, "but we have to count on the players that we have available, not the ones that aren't available."
Henriquez was a part of the Chilean Under-20 squad which recently completed a tour of Europe. The striker scored 11 goals in 17 league appearances in 2012 and starred in both the Apertura competition and the Copa Libertadores after the departure of Eduardo Vargas.
According to La Tercera, Henriquez did not return to Chile following the tour and has headed to Manchester United's camp.
