Liverpool presented Manchester City with a brace of soft equalisers in the pulsating 2-2 Premier League draw between the clubs at Anfield.

Nonetheless, it was a much-improved performance by the hosts, which hinted at a revival under the guidance of manager Brendan Rodgers.

Martin Skrtel gave Liverpool the lead on 34 minutes when, leaping to meet a Steven Gerrard corner, he arrowed a header past Joe Hart.

But an error from Martin Kelly, who failed to properly clear a cross from Carlos Tevez, allowed Yaya Toure to pounce and equalise just past the hour. Parity was short-lived, however, as a brilliant 25-yard free-kick from Luis Suarez restored the Reds' advantage.

Yet with ten minutes remaining, Skrtel underhit a backpass, Tevez reached it before Pepe Reina and conjured a composed finish, his 100th goal in English football.

In the earlier kick-off, Arsenal once again found their passing game suffocated at the Britannia Stadium, only managing a drab 0-0 draw against Stoke in the Premier League. The Gunners, who are yet to score in the league this season, dominated possession but created precious few chances, particularly during a subdued second period.

Although Santi Cazorla impressed in midfield, another limp attacking performance only highlighted the absence of Robin van Persie, who opened his Manchester United account on Saturday against Fulham.

Stoke defended deep and restricted Arsenal to long-range strikes and raids down the wing, with neither avenue yielding any success for the visitors. They went closest in the dying minutes, as an Olivier Giroud lob from 30 yards shaved the top of the bar.

The Potters had a decent penalty shout turned down in the second half, as Jermaine Pennant went down under Kieran Gibbs' clumsy challenge. But Lee Mason was unmoved as the game rumbled towards a draw, meaning Arsenal have still only won once at the Britannia Stadium in the Premier League.
