Nuri Sahin says he is concentrating on helping Liverpool challenge on all fronts before assessing his options at the end of the season when his loan spell concludes.

The Turkey international arrived at Anfield on Saturday on a season-long deal from Real Madrid, and said he remains open to all eventualities including a potential permanent switch.

"This is, for my situation, the best I think and that's why I am here," Sahin told reporters when asked about his loan deal.

"In football you never know," he responded when asked about the likelihood of his stay becoming a long-term one. "I'm here first for the season, then as we say in football you never know what can happen in a few months. So I'm looking forward to playing this year here and after we will see, all together."

The influence of his Real Madrid team-mate Xabi Alonso, an Anfield favourite after his own successful spell at the club, was a factor in Sahin's decision to take up the offer of a loan move.

"Xabi played a long time here and as I said when I arrived, Xabi is still in love with Liverpool Football Club," said Sahin. "There were only good things [he said] about the club."

Sahin's aim is to help manager Brendan Rodgers return Liverpool to being a top force in English football.

"If you watch the game against Man City you will see that the style of the team's play is very good, and of course Liverpool has to play in the Champions League," said the 23-year-old.

"A big club like Liverpool has to play in the Champions League every year, and we will do everything to get in the top four. There is also the FA Cup, Carling Cup and the Europa League. With the potential we have here we can achieve some good things at the end of the season."
