Birmingham City have reacted to their disappointing start to the season by lining up a loan deal for Swansea striker Leroy Lita.

Lita, 27, has had a medical in the Midlands and will sign for three months when the temporary window opens to Championship clubs on Saturday. The ex-Reading and Middlesbrough player has struggled for first-team opportunities at the Liberty Stadium.

He worked with St Andrew's boss Lee Clark during a loan spell with Norwich City in which he scored seven goals in 16 games, and the manager said: "He's a proven goalscorer who has power and pace, and there's no doubt that he'll add quality to my squad."

Lita, a former England Under-21 international, will be with Birmingham until mid-December unless Swansea invoke a clause to recall him - something they can do with 24 hours' notice after the first 28 days of his stay.

Birmingham needed a freak goal at the weekend to see off Peterborough and give them their first Championship victory of the season. They had previously managed only a draw and two defeats and went out of the Capital One Cup at Coventry.
