Lucas Leiva will take on a scouting role at Liverpool while he recovers from a thigh injury.

The 25-year-old midfielder is facing up to three months out after suffering the problem at the start of a Premier League match against Manchester City on August 26.

It was a devastating blow for the Brazil international, who had only just returned from a seven-month lay-off with cruciate knee ligament damage.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers believes that giving Lucas some scouting and tactical preparation work will keep his spirits up as he recovers.

"Lucas is at home for a bit and he has good days and bad days," Rodgers told the Liverpool Echo.

"We will keep his spirits up and I'm going use him to go out and look at some games for me with my analyst. Tactically, he's very good. I want to make sure that he stays in the game.

"Sometimes when you stand back and look at it from a different position, you pick up different things. I put that idea to him and he thought it was good."
