Cahill or Jagielka only likely change for Hodgson

Roy Hodgson will only make one change to his England side for the World Cup qualifier against Ukraine - and that one only because of John Terry's injury.

Hodgson was happy with the performance he saw from his side against Moldova on Friday, as the Three Lions ran out 5-0 winners in Chisinau. Other than a replacement for Terry, who picked up an ankle complaint during the match, the former West Brom boss will stick with the same lineup for the forthcoming game at Wembley, his first game in the stadium as national team coach.

"I'm not trying to be coy about the team," Hodgson said. "I thought the team was excellent against Moldova - both offensively and defensively we did a good job.

"I don't see any reason for making any particular changes in the team other than the one that's been forced upon us.

"We will be playing with the same players as long as nothing else untoward happens between now and kick-off time."

Hodgson has yet to decide who will fill in for Terry, however, with the Chelsea captain's club team-mate Gary Cahill vying with Everton centre-back Phil Jagielka for the honour.

Hodgson, while insisting he would be happy to rely on either player, has already made his decision - but will not reveal it until the day of the game.

"John Terry's position will be taken by one of Phil Jagielka and Gary Cahill," he added. "They're both good players, so it's obviously a tight decision.

"I think whichever player I choose, I'd be happy that the team was well-covered and John's absence was well-covered.

"So it's actually quite a nice position to be in when you've got two good players, you trust them both, you think that both are good enough.

"It's just up to me now to choose the one that I think will be the better player for this particular match on the day.

"I haven't spoken to the players and I don't want to announce the decision until such time as I've spoken to the two players."
