Arsenal have made enquiries about luring Didier Drogba away from Shanghai Shenhua, according to a report in the Sun.

The Ivorian was the Chinese club's marquee summer signing, being lured to the Far East on the back of his Champions League-winning exploits with Chelsea.

The forward has since found himself stuck in the middle of a power struggle at the club - which could result in Shenhua looking to offload the 34-year-old.

Arsenal are aware of the unrest in Shanghai and it is claimed they view Drogba as the man to fill the goalscoring void left by Robin van Persie's departure to Manchester United.

The Gunners have made an unbeaten start to the Premier League, but have netted just two goals in those three games. The lack of goals is threatening to undermine the defensive steel found since Steve Bould started work with the back line and manager Arsene Wenger is looking at ways of making improvements.

The transfer window is closed until January, but the Sun are saying Arsenal are weighing up the prospect of a bid.
