Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero is back in training after recovering from a knee injury.

Aguero, 24, has not played since City's first Premier League game of the season, when he was taken off in the 14th minute after being hurt in a challenge by Southampton defender Nathaniel Clyne.

Manager Roberto Mancini has since said he hoped Aguero would be fit after the international break, although it remains to be seen if the forward can make his comeback in time for Saturday's trip to Stoke.

City then go to the Bernabeu Stadium on Tuesday to begin their Champions League campaign against Real Madrid - a game that Aguero, as a former Atletico Madrid player, is particularly keen to win.

"I was never on the winning side against them so let's hope with City we can beat them," he said. "It will be difficult. Right now Real and Barcelona are among the best teams in the world, but we have a great team too."

The Argentina international joined City from Atletico for £38 million in the summer of 2011 and scored 30 goals in his debut season at the Etihad Stadium, including the title-winning strike against QPR on the final day.
