Scholes strikes on landmark day

On a day that saw Manchester United and Arsenal run riot, while Manchester City and Chelsea were held, we round-up the best Premier League moments...

United front
Evergreen Manchester United duo Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs reached landmarks by starting the match against Wigan: Scholes was playing his 700th game for the club, while Giggs became the first player to appear in 600 Premier League fixtures. Those two have got more records than HMV.

He scores goals
Scholes even managed to get himself on the scoresheet, just to add gloss to his achievement - and that goal meant United had scored in 51 consecutive home league games. To think they spent more than £20 million on Robin van Persie over the summer. The extravagance!

Whole lotta shakin' (not) going on
Not for the first time in recent seasons, a pre-match handshake was as just as eagerly anticipated as any of the fixtures - and, not for the first time, John Terry was at the centre of the drama. As expected, QPR defender Anton Ferdinand refused to shake the hand of Terry, who was found not guilty of racially abusing him, or Ashley Cole, who was a character witness for Terry at the trial.

Saintly patience
If Southampton defender Jos Hooiveld was wondering if the Premier League was a leap in class from the Championship, then he is now in absolutely no doubt. Following his own goal in the match against Arsenal, his rap sheet this season now reads: one own goal, and two penalties conceded. The Southampton back-up defenders must be wondering what they have to do for a start.

Norwich not nasty
We're not saying the Norwich team is too nice - but, after four games of this season, none of their players have been shown a yellow card. Good job Neil Warnock isn't in charge at Carrow Road: he probably would have tried to sell the centre backs by now.
