Ferguson in no mood for sloppiness

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is determined to ensure his side avoid a repeat of the kind of lapses in concentration which proved their undoing in last season's Champions League.
United kick their campaign off on Wednesday at Old Trafford against Galatasaray, and Ferguson is adamant that a strong home record will be key to any success this season.
Referring to games against Basel in last season's Champions League and Everton in the Premier League, against whom United had led by two goals before drawing, Ferguson insisted that lightning would not strike twice.
"I think that has to be a driving force this year. If you think back to leading Everton 4-2 and then drawing 4-4, we can't have that happening again," said the Scot in the lead up to the Galatasaray game.
"So goal difference is going to be important -- it will be a priority this season. Particularly in the attacking part of the team we are very strong and hopefully that makes a difference to us."
He continued: "I think we all agree we were careless in two of the games at home last season, we were in a winning position against Benfica and drew 2-2.
"I thought we played well in that particular game but the Basel game is the one where the criticism quite rightly lies.
"We were 2-0 up and playing very well but then got really careless in the second half and ended up with a 3-3 draw which really, in effect, knocked us out. We were chasing our tail a bit by having to go there and get a result. So that was disappointing.
"Hopefully our home form will be good again, as it has been for many, many years."
A more experienced line-up will be the key for Ferguson, as he seeks to avoid risking results by handing younger players the opportunity to gain their stripes in pressured situations.
"We don't want to be as careless as we were last year and the team I choose will reflect that," he said. "Over the past few years the group stages have been very straightforward for us so it gave me the opportunity to play a lot of young players.
"But I'll be playing a more experienced team this time."
Manchester United player to watch: Shinji Kagawa is set to make his Champions League debut for United and will look to continue his promising start to his United career with a strong display in his new club's opening Champions League game of the season.
Galatasaray player to watch: With experience of Premier League defences from his time with Bolton, striker Johan Elmander could be a threat up front for the Turkish side, and one which United will be well aware of.
Betting: Nothing less than a win will satisfy Ferguson and we can't see United daring to slip up. The home side to win with Kagawa opening the scoring is 7/1 with bet365.
Prediction: 3-1
