De Bruyne won't extend Bremen stay

Kevin De Bruyne has confirmed that he will leave Werder Bremen when his loan deal from Chelsea expires at the end of the season.

He said he has found it easy to adjust to the Bundesliga because the standards at Chelsea were higher.

De Bruyne signed for the Blues from Racing Genk in January and arrived at the club in the summer before being sent out on loan to Werder.

The Belgium international, who scored his first Bundesliga goal in the recent 3-2 defeat to Hannover 96, told Bild Zeitung: "I am happy with my start, even if I am still getting accustomed to the style of play."

The 21-year-old said he had no problem with adapting to the Bundesliga, explaining: "I was with Chelsea for pre-season this summer. The level was higher there. That made it easy for me to adjust to the Bundesliga."

Bremen have no option for a permanent deal at the end of the loan, and De Bruyne said he will return to England.

"I know I have to go back," he said. "Chelsea are positive about me. Sadly, there is no chance that Werder could extend the loan. If I don't get any playing time at Chelsea, I have to stay in England. To loan me to another European club is not an option for Chelsea."

The attacking midfielder, who played as a 'false nine' on his league debut for Bremen, is convinced he can make a contribution at Chelsea. In his last season with Genk, he featured in 22 matches and scored eight goals.
