Fergie: L'pool must stick with Rodgers

Sir Alex Ferguson is hopeful that his Liverpool counterpart Brendan Rodgers is afforded time at Anfield, but accepts that in modern football patience is uncommon.

Rodgers, 39, has already come under pressure after failing to win his opening four Premier League matches in charge at Liverpool, following his appointment as boss in the summer.

In contrast, Ferguson, who will face the Northern Irishman when Manchester United travel to the Reds on Sunday, has been in charge at Old Trafford for over 25 years.

Speaking of Rodgers, the Scot is quoted as saying in the Manchester Evening News: "He's a young manager and any young manager needs time. In the modern world you don't get a lot of time.

"Chelsea last year had a young manager in Andre Villas-Boas and he lasted about seven months. Patience is not a realistic thing nowadays. It's just not there.

"The only route for any manager is success. It's a results industry so winning matches is important. It's a different game from when I started. There was less pressure. The world has changed, the press has changed, but I always still felt I needed to win games.

"That's what you're in it for - to win games. It doesn't matter whether you're managing Port Vale or Liverpool or Manchester United, you have to get results nowadays."
