Tevez demands 'too high' for PSG

Paris Saint-Germain chairman Nasser al-Khelaifi has claimed that Carlos Tevez's extortionate wage demands priced him out of a move to the club in January.

Tevez, 28, appeared set for a move away from Manchester City during the winter transfer window earlier this year, after his infamous bust-up with Roberto Mancini last season.

The Argentina international fell out with his manager after supposedly refusing to warm up in the Champions League tie against Bayern Munich, before he eventually went AWOL back to his homeland.

A move to the mega rich Qatari-funded French club was rumoured but failed to materialise and Al-Khelaifi has now revealed that the club pulled the plug on the deal due to the player's demands.

"If the transfer was not sorted out, it was not because he didn't want to come, but because we didn't accept his wage demands," Al-Khelaifi told Germany's Sportbild.

"He wanted to come. We don't pay extortionate wages to our players. Last winter Carlos Tevez asked too much and didn't match the club's philosophy. So we refused."

Despite the chairman's claims on the club's philosophy on wages, PSG's investing of large sums of money in the transfer window has drawn plenty of criticism.

Bayern Munich chief executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge recently claimed the wages being paid to summer signing Zlatan Ibrahimovic gave him 'a stomach ache', yet Al-Khelaifi feels the striker's earnings are justified.

"If Karl Heinze Rummenigge is sick with the wages we offer, he should go and meet a doctor," Al-Khelaifi added.

"We take big care of our expenses. For example, Thiago Silva does not earn one more cent than what he earned at AC Milan. To me, Zlatan Ibrahimovic is the best forward in the world."
