Cole apologises for expletive tweet aimed at FA
Chelsea defender Ashley Cole has apologised after he posted a foul-mouthed comment aimed at the Football Association on Twitter.
Cole could yet face a misconduct charge after he took to the social networking site to respond to the report detailing why John Terry was banned for four matches after he was found guilty of 'using abusive and/or insulting words and/or behaviour' towards Anton Ferdinand last October.
The panel questioned Cole's reliability as a witness, saying it had "considerable doubts" over the evidence given by the defender, who responded by calling the FA a "bunch of t***s".
While Chelsea boss Roberto Di Matteo was fielding questions in his weekly pre-match press conference at the club's Cobham training ground, Cole tweeted: "Hahahahaa, well done #fa I lied did I, #BUNCHOFT***S''.
The offending tweet was later removed and Cole released a statement via his solicitor, in which he apologised unreservedly for his comment.
"I had just finished training and saw the captions on the TV screens in the treatment rooms about what was said in the FA Commission ruling about me," Cole said. "I was really upset and tweeted my feelings in the heat of the moment. I apologise unreservedly for my comment about the FA."
The document released on Friday says the Chelsea left-back added the word "black" into a witness statement outlining what he claimed to have heard Anton Ferdinand saying to Terry at a later date.
In August, Rio Ferdinand was fined £45,000 by the FA for using the phrase 'choc ice' in reference to Cole on Twitter, and Ryan Babel was fined £10,000 over Twitter criticism of Howard Webb.
