Police have confirmed that no official complaint has been made following Bolton striker Marvin Sordell's claims that he and several team-mates were racially abused during their defeat to Millwall on Saturday.

Sordell, 21, alleged on Twitter that he was abused by home fans in the 2-1 loss, along with Lee Chung-Yong, Darren Pratley and Benik Afobe, but Scotland Yard has not been contacted regarding the matter.

"There has been no complaint made to us, but if any allegation of racist behaviour or chanting is made it will be investigated thoroughly," a spokesman said.

Millwall and Bolton have confirmed through official statements that they are both looking into the claims.

"The two clubs remain determined to do everything in their power to ensure that racist behaviour will not be tolerated," a statement from Millwall said. "We will be speaking to the police and the match officials on this matter but no further comment will be made until this process has been completed and the investigations have been concluded."

Bolton said they were working with Millwall on the inquiry, and added: "Both clubs remain determined that racist behaviour or language will not be tolerated."

England Under-21 international and Team GB member Sordell said on his Twitter account: "It's 2012 in England and people are still shouting racial abuse at a football game!? £shocking." He added later on: "Chungy, Pratts, Benik and I had all sorts of things said to us. The police were standing yards away and did nothing."
