Fresh from his staunch defence of Luis Suarez, Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has hit back at the criticism of Joe Allen.

Allen followed Rodgers from Swansea to Liverpool in the summer and he has been in the spotlight due to the Reds' disappointing start to the season.

Match of the Day pundit Alan Shearer has questioned Allen, claiming he lacks impact due to his apparent unwillingness to play the killer pass.

Those comments have not sat well with Rodgers who feels Allen will more than justify Liverpool's decision to sign the midfielder.

"I saw something criticising Joe for not playing risk passes," Rodgers said. "Unbelievable.

"Our so-called pundits who don't know the dynamics of a team and how it functions. Joe will prove an absolute bargain."
