PSV Eindhoven winger Dries Mertens has cooled talk of a possible move away from the club in January, following speculation linking the player with a switch to England.

Mertens, 25, has attracted interest from both Liverpool and Tottenham, with the Merseyside club believed to have been tracking him for some time.

But while admitting that one day a move away from Netherlands may be in the pipeline, the Belgium international has stated his desire to remain at his current club and to help guide them to the Eredivisie title.

"As it is I'm very pleased at PSV," Mertens said. "We have a very good team, the atmosphere is great, I'm close to Belgium.

"Of course you sometimes think higher. But I still have a sour feeling missing the title last year. That must be put right."

Mertens has been in lethal fom since joining PSV from FC Utrecht last summer, netting 25 goals in 40 league appearances.

The former Gent man was responsible for Gary Cahill's absence from Euro 2012 after his shove left the England defender with a broken jaw.
