City sweat on injured Silva

Manchester City face an anxious wait to see whether forward David Silva will be sidelined after he was injured during Spain's World Cup qualifying game against France.

Silva, 26, limped out of the 1-1 draw after only 12 minutes and was replaced by Arsenal's Santi Cazorla.

It means he is a doubt for City's trip to West Bromwich Albion on Saturday, which is followed by a must-win Champions League game away to Ajax.

While Silva is yet to recapture the form he showed last season, when he was the Premier League's most creative player with 15 assists, manager Roberto Mancini is reluctant to go into matches without him.

He signed a new five-year contract at the Etihad Stadium last month and has missed only one club game - the 4-2 Capital One Cup defeat to Aston Villa - so far this season.

Spain coach Vicente del Bosque also had to take off Alvaro Arbeloa and rued the impact of the injuries as his world champions were held in Madrid.

"The injuries were an immediate misfortune because they prevented us from managing the changes," he said. "There haven't been any muscular injuries in my four years here, and so I was sorry to have two."
