Parker could be out until Christmas

Scott Parker may be out injured until Christmas, Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas has revealed.

The midfielder has not played at all since England's Euro 2012 quarter-final defeat to Italy on June 24, when he was forced to go off in extra-time due to an injury to his Achilles tendon.

Curiously, he did not undergo surgery until six-and-a-half weeks later and, although Parker was only expected to miss the first month of the season, his manager said "we could be looking at Christmas, hopefully less."

"It's difficult for him as he still feels pain and is still disturbed in his recovery," Villas-Boas said. "It prevents him from being on the pitch but he has been evolving inside, in the gym, with the medical department.

"It is still within the limits of what we expected. He is making good progress and there has been less pain."
