Andre Villas-Boas is adamant that Emmanuel Adebayor will not leave Tottenham in January.

The former Arsenal striker signed a permanent deal at White Hart Lane over the summer having scored 17 goals last season while on loan at the club from Manchester City.

But he has yet to nail down a place in Spurs' starting XI, having been restricted to just four appearances as a substitute this season, with Villas-Boas favouring Jermain Defoe up front.

Reports this week suggested the Togo international would be looking to jump ship when the transfer window opened in the New Year, but Villas-Boas is confident the club will not let the striker leave.

"No I don't think so," he replied when asked if Adebayor was on his way out of the club. "I don't think the club will be willing to let anyone go in January."

Adebayor was on the bench for Spurs' defeat to Chelsea at the weekend, coming on for Defoe after 74 minutes, and Villas-Boas admits he is wary of playing two strikers.

"Every player wants to play," he told Sky Sports News. "At the moment we have been using a structure of one striker and Defoe has been doing extremely well.

"Ade in the games he has come on in has done well. He is in contention for when we play two strikers. We have not found comfort in that formation yet. When we use it and rotate the strikers, he will be in contention."
