SPL confirm Hearts transfer embargo

Hearts have been placed under a Scottish Premier League transfer embargo until December 23 as the SPL considers the club's failure to pay all its wages on time.

Six members of the club's playing squad, as well as manager John McGlynn, have yet to receive their full wages, which had been due on October 16 - the second month in a row this has happened.

It is believed the SPL board imposed the embargo, allowed under new rules this season, after the original September breach, but the sanction has not been confirmed by the SPL until now.

The sanction means forward Rudi Skacel, who is training with the club he left for a second time in May, would currently be unable to sign if offered a deal.

McGlynn revealed last week that the overdue wages were set to be paid by October 19, however, it has yet to be confirmed if that was the case

"The latest is that everyone will be paid by the end of play today," McGlynn said. "We've just been told that, so I've not had any reaction from the players, but I'm sure they'll be happy.''

Hearts faced similar problems last season after three straight months of delayed wages prompted an official complaint from the players to the SPL via the PFA Scotland union, only for the possibility of action to be averted in January when the club met demands imposed.

However, the issue arose again in March, with players and staff receiving their salaries 12 days late.
