MK Dons set up historic Wimbledon showdown

MK Dons cemented a historic FA Cup second round encounter with AFC Wimbledon on Tuesday, beating Cambridge City 6-1 on home soil.

AFC set up in 2002, as a response to the original Wimbledon's decision to move to Milton Keynes. Never have the sides met during the past decade, and their forthcoming FA Cup clash is sure to be heated - with the clubs still at odds over MK Dons' use of 'Dons' in their team name.

The Milton Keynes club had the tie killed off by half-time against Cambridge, as goals from Shaun Williams, James O'Shea and Dean Bowditch handed them a 3-0 advantage. Dave Theobald pulled one back for Cambridge, but the Dons added further strikes through Williams, Dele Ali and Adam Chicksen.

Things were equally comfortable for Tranmere, who beat non-league Braintree 3-0 to book a second-round tie with Chesterfield. Joe Thompson bundled home their first, before Cole Stockton scored the second and then set up Max Power to kill the game off.

Garry Hunter was the Barrow hero two minutes into injury-time as they beat fellow non-league side Guiseley 1-0. Barrow will now meet Macclesfield.

Morecambe will play Coventry in the second round after they defeated Rochdale 1-0 thanks to a scrappy goal from Gary McDonald. Meanwhile, Luton will host Dorchester after they ran out 2-0 winners at Nuneaton thanks to a Scott Rendell brace.

Mansfield went to penalties with Slough, eventually advancing to an away tie with Lincoln, who beat Walsall 3-2. Jake Speight scored the decisive penalty for Mansfield after the scores finished 1-1 in normal time, and they even survived the sending-off of John Dempster to claim victory.

Elsewhere, Bradford beat Northampton on penalties after a thrilling 3-3 draw. They will now meet Brentford in the next round.
